FAQ's
What is the MS connector located on the top left corner of the communicator in the 8211 Series Air Control for?
The MS connector is not used on the 8211 series Air Control. If you own an 8211 series Air Control just keep this connector capped. The reason it is there is because this same communicator is used in Amron’s 8225 series Air Control and this connector is used to power the Low Pressure Alarm and sends audio to the speaker located in the pneumo panel.
What is the AC input voltage range for the 2825A-05?
The 2825A-05 has an input voltage range from 90-264 VAC and frequency range from 47-440 Hz.
How can I test for a blown fuse on my Amcom series communicator?

If the unit is plugged into a live outlet and turning on the switch does not cause the AC POWER LED to light up, then the fuse(s) are probably blown. Unplug the unit from the outlet, remove the fuses and check continuity with a multimeter. Replace any fuse that does not show continuity.

Can you stack the banana plugs from the diver's communicator cable so you can have two divers on each diver channel?

Although it may be possible, we strongly discourage such operation. The added workload would cause overheating and stress to the amplifier card. Prolonged use in this condition will eventually cause permanent damage and failure to the amplifier card.

What type of cable do I need to connect my Amron communicator to my Outland video system?
Amron communicators and Outland Technology’s video systems have a RCA Phono Jack. To connect the two systems together, you will need an audio cable with RCA Plugs on each end.
How do I install a new microphone in my Amcom II or III Communicator?
Please refer to the Panel Microphone Installation instructions located in the attachments tab.
Should I use a GFI when operating my radio off AC power?

When operating your Amron Diver Communicator on AC, it is critical to use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) or isolation transformer for tender and diver safety. Surges and spikes are common on AC lines found on ships, generated locally, or at the end of long extension cable runs and can exceed 1kVolt. Such surges and spikes can cause the fuse to blow on the amplifier card assembly. The power supply is designed so that such a failure will be isolated and will not cause a safety issue to the tender or divers. It is strongly advised that your Amron Diver Communicator be operated on an AC circuit with a high quality surge arrester or an AC isolation transformer.

Can I operate my communicator while I’m charging the internal battery?
Yes, however, the charger will charge the battery at a slower rate as some of the charger power is being used to operate the communicator.
Can my Amcom communicator work on 240V / 60Hz?
Yes, the unit has an operating range of 90-264 VAC, 50-60 Hz..
When my battery does not appear to be holding a charge, how do I know if the problem is a bad battery or if the charger is broken?

To determine whether the problem is with the battery or charging circuitry, you will need to verify if the battery is being charged.

Troubleshooting

  1. Unplug your communicator and turn on the POWER switch.
  2. Measure the voltage across the yellow PUSH-TO-TALK (PTT) jack and write down this value for future reference. It should be greater than 9 Volts.
  3. Plug the communicator into an AC source and verify that the AC POWER LED on the front panel turns on.
  4. Re-measure the voltage across the PTT jack and note it down for future reference. It should be higher than the previous measurement.
  5. If the AC POWER LED does not light up when the communicator is plugged in, then check fuse located on the amplifier card.
  6. Allow the communicator to charge overnight.
  7. Unplug the communicator and re-measure the voltage across the PTT jack.
    1. If it is the same or less than the voltage you measured previously, then the charger is broken and the communicator needs to be sent in for repairs
    2. If the voltage higher than previous measurement but less than 13.5 Volts, then the battery is bad and needs to be replaced.
    3. If it is greater than 13.5 Volts but it still appears that the battery is not holding a charge, contact Amron for additional support.
