Sterilization

Please reference the Cleaning Manual located in the Resources Tab on this web page for recommended cleaning instructions. Amron recommends SaniZide Plus® as a convenient, fast-acting germicidal disinfectant. Gas sterilization can be used if close attention is paid to temperature, but multiple cycles of gas sterilization will shorten the working life of the product. Gas sterilization temperatures must be kept below 130 degrees F to avoid affecting the shape of the hood ring. See the FAQ tab on this web page for additional information about gas sterilization.

Amron International’s 8891-010 Oxygen Treatment Hood (Helmet) with Optical Viewing Window is the leading hood on the market and easily sets the standard for all others.

Amron's Oxygen Treatment Hood (Helmet) was designed for clinical hyperbaric chambers with the patient’s comfort in mind and its ease-of-use for the attendant. The hood is comprised of clear medical-grade vinyl with an optical quality, extra-large viewing window on the front. Cleaning this O2 hood is simpler for the attendant now that the hood is welded to the neck ring, reducing the risk of bacteria being trapped in between the neck ring and hood. Integrated locking ribs allows hood to perform at positive pressures at 40+ cm H2O.

FAQ's
Is there any data on the flow rate needed to achieve 100% FiO2 in the Oxygen Treatment Hood with different head sizes?
No. There are too many variables involved in determining the FiO2 inside the Oxygen Treatment Hood using a data chart or mathematical formula. Besides fixed factors like oxygen flow rate and exhaust rates, you have patient factors as well, patient head size, patient tidal volume and breathing rate, and patient health just to name a few. To offer your patients the highest concentration of oxygen, Amron suggest setting the oxygen flow rate between 25-50 lpm (Liters Per Minute) and using an Amron Exhaust Regulator 8890-300. The Amron Exhaust Regulator provides automatic exhaust of excess gas from the treatment hood regardless of input flow of oxygen. It will also track the supply flow and increase and decrease the exhaust flow as necessary. The easiest way to determine FiO2 inside the Oxygen Treatment Hood is to connect an oxygen analyzer to the hood by using the multi-purpose port. Analyzing a gas sample from inside the treatment hood in real time will give you an idea of what oxygen concentration the patient is breathing.
Can I purchase an Oxygen Treatment Hood for private use?
No, Federal law (USA) mandates that Amron can only sell this device to physicians and/or licensed clinical practitioners.
Do you make the 8891-010 Oxygen Treatment Hood in different sizes?

No, we currently only offer this one size.

What is the internal volume of the Oxygen Treatment Hood?
1533.98 in³.
Can I use my Sterrad ® Sterilization system to sterilize my 8891 Oxygen Treatment Hood?

Amron has not performed any testing to determine whether or not you can use this type of process to sterilize our Oxygen Treatment Hood. Amron recommends using SaniZide Plus as a convenient, fast-acting intermediate level germicidal disinfectant, cleaner, and deodorizer.

Can I autoclave the my Oxygen Treatment Hood?

No. Amron recommends SaniZide Plus as a convenient, fast-acting intermediate level germicidal disinfectant, cleaner and deodorizer. SaniZide Plus is delivered ready to use and requires no mixing.

What is your official recommended oxygen flow rate for the Amron patient hyperbaric oxygen treatment hood?

Adjust all the appropriate flow control devices between 25-50 liters per minute. As the hood inflates, adjust the supply and exhaust flow controls to stabilize the hood pressure.

NOTE: Excessive flow will overinflate the hood, and insufficient flow will collapse the hood. Flow rates will vary with chamber delivery systems, user lung volume, and breathing rate. Proper Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide levels should be verified within the hood through the multi-purpose port and the use of an Oxygen analyzer and Carbon Dioxide analyzer such as the Analox SDA Series O2 and CO2 analyzers or Analox Sub Aspida O2/CO2 monitors

The method of cleaning as stated in the general instructions does not suit our unit due to the clean area that would be required to drip dry the hoods. Is there any other approved method of cleaning?

We only have two methods approved for cleaning.

1)     The first is spraying Sanizide and letting the hood sit for 10 minutes.

2)    The second is gas sterilization using the method below:

  1. Low - 4  hours at 100 degrees Fahrenheit with an aeration time of 36 hours
  2. High - 1 hour at 130 degrees Fahrenheit with an aeration time of 12 hours

Using the gas sterilization will shorten the life of the hood but we have many customers that use it and are very happy with the results.
