ENHANCEMENTS
  • High Audio Fidelity

Ultra-low noise, wide band width amplifier circuit combined with noise suppression circuitry produces crystal clear speech. The amplifier’s Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuit prevents audio signal distortion and enhances speaker protection and audio quality.

  • Extended Battery Operation Time

The audio amplifier card deploys a state-of-the-art, Class-D digital audio power amplifier. It has very low power dissipation, generates minimal heat, and enhances battery life.

  • Ultra-Low Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)

EMI is minimized through spread-spectrum and de-phase control techniques, providing for optimum integration with diving systems.

FEATURES
  • Separate channels and volume controls for each diver and tender to accommodate individual earphone and microphone adjustments, equipment variations and individual comfort levels.
  • Divers’ umbilicals can be set up on 4-wire mode (full duplex) or 2-wire mode (push-to-talk) or any combination of the two modes for each diver.
  • Ability to use both dynamic and pre-amplified diver microphones with a unique circuit that detects microphone type and automatically adjusts volume levels.
  • Weatherproof push-to-talk microphone for better voice intelligibility topside. For optimum clarity, see Tech Note (below) for other recommended equipment.
  • Internal charger allows for simultaneous charging and operation of the unit while protecting the rechargeable battery from being overcharged. Automatically supplies power to the audio amplifier when AC power is disconnected to allow for continued operation.

TECH NOTE

All communicators will inherently transfer topside noise to the divers when the tender speaks directly into the communicator’s panel speaker. To eliminate background noise at the surface, use the 2405-28 Push-to-Talk Microphone, included with this model. For optimum communications, we recommend purchasing the 2401-28 Deluxe Headset with Boom Mic, topside. For tender mobility, use the 2401-28 Deluxe Headset with Boom Mic along with the 2822-28 Remote Walk-and-Talk (4-wire mode) or the 2821-28 Remote Walk-and-Talk (2-wire mode). For wireless tender communications, order the 2830A-13 Three-Diver Portable with 28B Wireless Tender Kit, Outdoor AC Power Module and International Locking Power Cord

Note: Unit is not supplied with a battery or bracket.

The AMCOM™ III 2830A-04 Three Diver 8330IC Communicator with AC Power and built-in internal charger features separate channels and volume controls for up to three divers and the tender so that up link and down link paths can be customized for varying equipment configurations and individual comfort levels.

The newest version of the AMCOM™ III has the same versatile user-interface, rugged durability and great sound quality as its predecessor with several new digital enhancements: (1) High-Audio Fidelity; (2) Extended Battery Operation; (3) Flexible Gain Settings and (4) Ultra-Low Electromagnetic Interference (EMI). The Specs tab outlines the many outstanding features that continue to make this model the most popular and powerful communicator on the market today.

Amron’s 2830A-04 diver communication system is based on Amron’s field proven Amcom III Model 2830A series communicators, adapted to fit into the 8330iC series air control pneumo panels. The 2830A-04 is sold individually as a replacement for both legacy and current 8330iC series air controls. The unit comes standard with a built-in medical grade internal power supply and can be operated using a 90-264 VAC, internal 12 VDC battery, or an external 12 VDC power source. A battery is not integrated directly into the chassis of the 2830A-04 and does not come with the unit. The battery and battery bracket are mounted to the back of the pneumo panel, separate from the communicator, and both must be purchased separately. The 2830A-04 operating time from fully charged battery is approximately 41 hours.

Possibly the most useful feature of the AMCOM III communicator is the ability to operate the unit remotely. This feature allows the use of a hand-held, push-to-talk microphone (included), or a walk and talk type module (optional). This allows the tender (operator) to move about and still maintain contact with the divers.

The use of the noise canceling push-to-talk microphone automatically disconnects the speaker when talking to the divers, cutting out the majority of the background noise which greatly improves the intelligibility of communications.

The communicator provides ample voice power. This power level provides the volume necessary to communicate clearly even under difficult conditions. Standard controls include: power on/off, tender volume, diver volume, speaker on/off, 5-way binding post diver input, push-to-talk switch, headset/microphone jack, and remote push-to-talk jacks.

Note: Unit is not supplied with a battery or battery bracket.

FAQ's
Can you stack the banana plugs from the diver's communicator cable so you can have two divers on each diver channel?

Although it may be possible, we strongly discourage such operation. The added workload would cause overheating and stress to the amplifier card. Prolonged use in this condition will eventually cause permanent damage and failure to the amplifier card.

What type of cable do I need to connect my Amron communicator to my Outland video system?
Amron communicators and Outland Technology’s video systems have a RCA Phono Jack. To connect the two systems together, you will need an audio cable with RCA Plugs on each end.
How do I install a new microphone in my Amcom II or III Communicator?
Please refer to the Panel Microphone Installation instructions located in the attachments tab.
Should I use a GFI when operating my radio off AC power?

When operating your Amron Diver Communicator on AC, it is critical to use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) or isolation transformer for tender and diver safety. Surges and spikes are common on AC lines found on ships, generated locally, or at the end of long extension cable runs and can exceed 1kVolt. Such surges and spikes can cause the fuse to blow on the amplifier card assembly. The power supply is designed so that such a failure will be isolated and will not cause a safety issue to the tender or divers. It is strongly advised that your Amron Diver Communicator be operated on an AC circuit with a high quality surge arrester or an AC isolation transformer.

Can I operate my communicator while I’m charging the internal battery?
Yes, however, the charger will charge the battery at a slower rate as some of the charger power is being used to operate the communicator.
Can my Amcom communicator work on 240V / 60Hz?
Yes, the unit has an operating range of 90-264 VAC, 50-60 Hz..
What are the environmental parameters that Amron's comms units can be used in?
Temperature: Class C Ambient Temperatures –25°C to +55°C Humidity: Class A Relative humidity up to 96% at all relevant temperatures, no condensation Vibration: Class A On bulkheads, beams, deck, bridge EMC: Class B All locations including bridge and open deck
When my battery does not appear to be holding a charge, how do I know if the problem is a bad battery or if the charger is broken?

To determine whether the problem is with the battery or charging circuitry, you will need to verify if the battery is being charged.

Troubleshooting

  1. Unplug your communicator and turn on the POWER switch.
  2. Measure the voltage across the yellow PUSH-TO-TALK (PTT) jack and write down this value for future reference. It should be greater than 9 Volts.
  3. Plug the communicator into an AC source and verify that the AC POWER LED on the front panel turns on.
  4. Re-measure the voltage across the PTT jack and note it down for future reference. It should be higher than the previous measurement.
  5. If the AC POWER LED does not light up when the communicator is plugged in, then check fuse located on the amplifier card.
  6. Allow the communicator to charge overnight.
  7. Unplug the communicator and re-measure the voltage across the PTT jack.
    1. If it is the same or less than the voltage you measured previously, then the charger is broken and the communicator needs to be sent in for repairs
    2. If the voltage higher than previous measurement but less than 13.5 Volts, then the battery is bad and needs to be replaced.
    3. If it is greater than 13.5 Volts but it still appears that the battery is not holding a charge, contact Amron for additional support.
