Amron Explosion Proof Chamber Communicator

The Amron International Amcom™ 2810E-ATEX Chamber Communicator is an explosion-proof, ATEX-rated chamber communicator that can be safely used in a flammable gas environment where there is ignition risk from electrical devices. The 2810E-ATEX provides a means of safe communication with inner and outer locks in a hyperbaric chamber and a method of powering and switching chamber lighting without risk of flammable ignition.

The 2810E-ATEX communicator component parts are contained within a thick, premium-grade, IEC Class 1, Zone 2-rated aluminum enclosure that prevents gas from getting into the housing, eliminating the chance of an electrical arc igniting flammable gas. The housing and cable entry glands are sealed, making the enclosure airtight to prevent flammable gas intrusion. The communicator is part of a larger explosion-proof system of ATEX devices intended to protect maritime and industrial vessels operating where flammable gases can accumulate. ATEX devices ensure that electrical equipment, sensors, and enclosures cannot act as ignition sources in these potentially explosive atmospheres.

There are 6 operator controls on the front panel of the 2810E-ATEX:

1. Power On/Off (power for communicator only, not the chamber light)
2. Light On/Off (controls power to the optional chamber light)
3. Push-to-Talk (for the operator to speak to chamber occupants)
4. Lock Selector Switch – Inner, Outer, or Both (selects which lock is monitored)
5. Lock Volume (controls audio volume for the chamber)
6. Operator Volume (controls the volume of the operator horn speaker)

The communicator works in 2-wire mode only. When the communicator is powered, the horn speaker continuously monitors audio coming from whichever lock is selected on the Chamber Lock Selector switch. The horn speaker functions as both a speaker and microphone. The operator communicates with chamber occupants by speaking into the horn speaker while pressing the push-to-talk button. The operator can speak to the inner lock, outer lock, or both at the same time. The operator can control the volume of the chamber audio and operator audio independently.

2810E-ATEX electrical connections are made through a cable pre-installed through a gland at the bottom of the enclosure. There are four functional twisted wire pairs, an earth ground wire, and spare wires in the cable. The four functional twisted pairs are for input power, chamber light power and switching, inner chamber comm box audio, and outer chamber comm box audio. Wires in the cable are pre-labeled for easy identification during installation. The 2810E-ATEX does not have a battery for backup power.
