Features
- All BIRNS penetrators are uniquely serialized and certified
- All BIRNS penetrators are tested and certified per ABS/DNV - compliant BIRNS test procedure ETP-6510-101
- All BIRNS penetrators are tested with helium to 150% design pressure inboard (before and after termination and overmolding) and with hydrostatic saltwater testing to 150% design pressure outboard
- ABS or DNV witnessing of testing is available at additional charge; customer witnessing is free of charge
- LSZH (Low-Smoke Zero-Halogen) penetrators are available for ABS/DNV -rated use; these are designated by the suffix “-LS” and have individual LSZH wires inboard
- Special cable jackets (e.g. Hypalon or polyurethane) and types (e.g. TSP) are available on request

BIRNS penetrators transmit electrical power/signal through a pressure boundary, decrease the complexity of electrical systems, and reduce dependence on operator skill. NPT Penetrators have tapered “pipe” threads and are widely used on diving bells and decompression chambers. BIRNS NPT Penetrators are made with AISI 316 stainless steel shells, passivated per QQ -P-35 type VI . They are rated for use up to 80°C (176°F) when fabricated with neoprene (polychloroprene) cable jackets, or up to 95°C (203°F) with optional CSPE cable jackets.
