Environmental Considerations

  • Operating Temperature: Upper limit is +50°C but only for a short period of time. Lower temperature limit on the drysuit is not applicable, however there could be problems with freezing of valves and regulators if diving in extreme conditions.
  • Storage : The optimal storage room is a cool, dry and closed area away from machines and electrical motors that produce ozone when running. Do not store in direct sunlight.
  • Operating Depth : The drysuit does not have a usable depth limit, however since the rubber does not isolate from the surrounding cold water, the diver must be clothed in the proper thermal undergarments.

Chemical Resistance

  • Inorganic Acids:
    • Hydrochloric Acid 40%
    • Phosphoric Acid 50%
    • Hydroflouric Acid 50%
    • Sulfuric Acid 60% (max)

The Amron Explorer Vulcanized Rubber Drysuit is manufactured from 1100 g/m² vulcanized rubber material, making it a more durable suit than most other comparable suits on the market. The unique 2-way stretch nylon inner lining provides a trim fit, minimized drag yet provides maximum mobility for unrivaled comfort.

The Explorer comes with heavy duty dual thickness wrist seals, latex neck seal and hard sole vulcanized rubber boots. Full reinforcements in the shoulders, elbows, waist, knees, and seat are standard features on the Explorer. The Explorer comes with SI Tech exhaust and inlet valves, inflation hose whip, suspender tabs, fin keepers, ankle strap retainers, repair kit, storage bag, owner's manual, and then unique Amron Zip-Guard to increase the life of the zipper.

The Drysuit inner seams are quadruple stitched and flush fitting (no overlay) and will not rub or chafe. The outer seams are covered with rubber reinforcement which is vulcanized to the body material. This results in an efficient outer joint which is permanent and inseparably fused to the body. The boots, zipper and reinforcements are also vulcanized to give you a completely waterproof Drysuit.

Every step of the manufacturing process is monitored, checked and rechecked to assure each unit is unsurpassed in its quality of construction. Every suit is inspected and leak tested to guarantee a safe leak free suit.

All Amron Vulcanized Rubber Drysuits are manufactured to stringent ISO 9001 design, quality and manufacturing standards and conform to CE Requirements.

Product FAQ's

Ask a Question

  • How do I know which size drysuit is best for me?

It is very important to have the correct size, most important is the length of the drysuit. If it’s difficult to squat or it feels tight in the crotch, the suit is too short. You need to be able to stretch your arms over your head comfortably and kneel down without too much resistance. A suit can also be too long, as there is the possibility of your feet popping out of the boots while underwater. The optional suspenders do an excellent job of keeping the trouser section in place.

  • Can the Explorer and AHD1600 series be custom made?

The factory can add custom size boots to your suit at time of order. Since these suits are made and vulcanized on mannequins, they conform to the shape of the mannequin. Most people will fit into these sizes, however we can shorten or lengthen arms, legs and torso if necessary. Call Amron for details.

    How helpful was this information?

  • Some drysuits have a rubber valve port between the valves and the suit material, why is this important?

As mentioned before it is very important to rinse your valves after every dive, some drysuit valves are actually glued directly to the suit material making this very difficult. Rubber ports are permanently vulcanized or glued onto the suit material and form an air & water tight seal for the valves mating surfaces. Removing and replacing the valves on a suit is simply a matter of unscrewing the backing ring from the valve.

  • What’s the purpose of suspenders inside a drysuit?

As no two people are exactly the same, no two drysuit’s fit the same either. To allow for full body movement, like bending over, sitting and kneeling, the torso area of a drysuit must be cut in such a way to give you extra room so that it doesn’t hinder these movements. Just as you wear a belt or suspenders to keep your pants comfortable and in place, drysuit suspenders are the perfect way to keep the lower half of the suit fitting properly.

  • Why do I need a zipper guard over my drysuit zipper?

The single most expensive component of a drysuit is the zipper and it is also one of the most expensive to replace. Zippers are only designed to hold a few pounds of pressure and were never intended to be kinked, bent or have buckles and straps rubbing against them. A zip guard helps prevent premature wear of the sealing tapes caused by chaffing, it also reinforces the horizontal strength of the zipper and keeps the zipper slider and teeth from being snagged or damaged by other diving equipment.

  • Does material stretch really make a difference in a drysuit?

It all depends on the cut and fit of the suit and the individual wearing it. Because everyone is shaped and proportioned differently, how a suit fits tends to be a very personal decision and choice. While most suit materials have very little stretch, others have quite a bit. Too little stretch is uncomfortable when bending, too much makes the suit bulky, especially when inflated.

  • I get suit squeeze on my legs when I am standing or vertical in the water, how can I prevent this?

As you already know, all the air within the suit will rise to the highest point. The only thing between you and the suit material is your undergarment, try using a higher loft undergarment which will trap more air throughout the suit. It is this layer of air which is keeping you warm. Some squeeze is actually good, it is a natural way to keep the suit fitting snug and prevents excess material from getting in your way.

    How helpful was this information?

  • Which material is better: vulcanized rubber, neoprene, pack cloth or polyurethane?

This is like asking which is better cotton, polyester or wool? They are all good at what they do, they just do it differently and some have advantages over others. Amron has chosen vulcanized rubber because of it’s excellent abrasion resistance, it is supple and stretchable, it’s neutral in the water, dries faster than all other materials besides polyurethane and is the easiest and quickest to patch in the field.

    How helpful was this information?

  • How warm will the Explorer and AHD1600 keep me?

This depends on the undergarments you wear underneath your drysuit. One of the great advantages of the vulcanized rubber drysuits is the ability to change the amount of thermal wear that can be worn underneath your drysuit, depending on the water temperature, activity and your own body metabolism.

  • What would be the best drysuit to use when diving in contaminated water, chemical and sewage?

The AHD1600 Vulcanized Rubber Drysuit with yoke and cuff ring system.

Diving in any type of contaminated water is hazardous and requires special training. All divers and topside personnel should be properly trained prior to the start of any contaminated water diving job. All helmets, masks, and drysuits can leak water under certain conditions; divers should use extreme caution when diving in contaminated waters.

  • While diving in contaminated waters and the drysuit has a hood, does the diver need more protection when using a band mask or AGA mask?

The Kirby Morgan Band Mask is not designed to be used in contaminated water diving. I would recommend using a helmet like the Kirby Morgan Superlite 37 part number 500-051. The AGA mask can be used in contaminated water, but only when using the positive pressure version part number 96319-06.

  • What are some of the advantages of the Amron suits over other drysuits?

Amron’s Explorer and AHD1600 series drysuits have a stretchable polyester lining, making it quick and easy to put on and take off. The vulcanized rubber material is very abrasion resistant.  This material will not compress at depth. Less weights are required compared to some other types of material. All seams are stitched, reinforced, and then vulcanized, making the suit essentially “seamless”. It’s very easy to detect/find leaks in a vulcanized rubber drysuit and just as easy to repair them (similar to an inner tube). Because of the ease of repairing these suits in the field, you lose no down-time and don’t miss any dives. Easy to clean and dries in minutes, means low maintenance. Amron’s unique zip-guard protects your zipper and you pocket book. Both suits feature fin keepers, ankle strap holders and suspender tabs.
